How we rank AI girlfriend apps
Every app is tested hands-on for at least two weeks by our team before it is scored.
The five scoring criteria
Each app receives a score from 1 to 5 on each of the five criteria below. The weighted average becomes its overall rating.
- Memory & consistency (25%) - does the AI remember facts you shared, personality traits of your character, ongoing storylines? Tested over a two-week period with a scripted memory probe.
- Realism (20%) - language naturalness, voice prosody when voice is offered, image fidelity for image-generation apps.
- Feature set (20%) - text, voice, images, video, group chat, customization, marketplace, roleplay tools.
- Price & value (20%) - value of the free tier, fair limits on paid plans, transparency of billing.
- Safety & privacy (15%) - encryption, documented data retention, age verification, moderation controls given to the user.
What we do not score on
- App store ratings alone - we use them as signal but never as a primary score.
Our editorial process
- Shortlist: we track new AI girlfriend apps monthly via our editorial watch.
- Test period: an editor uses the app daily for at least two weeks on its paid plan.
- Scripted probes: memory probe, filter probe, safety probe, consistency probe.
- Blind peer review: a second editor re-scores without seeing the first score.
- Final rating: averaged and published, with the date stamped on the page.
Update cadence
We re-test each ranked app at least every 3 months. Major product changes (new model, new pricing, new policy) can trigger an earlier refresh.
Affiliate disclosure
Some outbound links on individual review pages are affiliate links. We may earn a commission when a reader subscribes after following one. Every affiliate link is marked rel="nofollow noopener". Affiliate commissions are separate from the paid-placement program described below and do not, on their own, reorder the ranking.
Paid placements and sponsored content
This site accepts paid placements from AI girlfriend apps. Two products are sold:
- Promoted ranking positions. An app can pay to appear in a specific slot of the top ten, typically for one month at a time. Promoted cards are flagged with a visible tag on the card itself. Their editorial score and five-criteria rubric remain unchanged and are still the basis of our individual review page.
- Sponsored banners. An app can pay for a custom HTML banner block in a fixed slot on the homepage or on competitor review pages. Every banner carries the same tag, and the outbound link is marked
rel="nofollow noopener".
Paid placements are priced independently of editorial outcome. An app that buys a promoted slot does not receive a higher editorial score, and an app with a high editorial score is not given a free slot. Readers who want the unpromoted picture can use the filter and sort controls on the ranking, which reorder cards by the underlying editorial rating.
If a placement is live when you read this page, you will see tags on every affected unit. If you see no such tag, no placement is active there.
